(October 6, 2019) – Today’s race solidified Wes as the  2019 Ohio Valley Karting Association Champion  in not just one but in two classes,  Sportsman Yamaha and Sportsman LO206 .

Race format for the day was a 5 minute group qualify, then a pre-final followed by a 12 lap final.  Wes was once again fast.  In his Sportsman Yamaha he qualified on the pole, won the pre-final as well as the final.  In the Sportsman LO206 Wes was consistently in the 2nd place position for qualifying, the pre-final as well as the final.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #13

(September 29, 2019) – With just two races remaining for the 2019 Ohio Valley Karting Association season Wes made the most out of today’s race day.  He started the day strong by qualifying on the pole in both classes, Sportsman LO206 and Sportsman Yamaha.  For the pre-finals he finished 1st in both the LO206 class and the Yamaha class.  Wes raced fast and fllawlessly in the finals placing both karts in the Winners Circle!

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #12

(September 15, 2019)  - The weather was nearly perfect for Race #12 of the OVKA season.  Wes was excited for the Pill Draw race format and placed both his Sportsman karts (Yamaha & LO206) on the Pole for the Final.  After winning in the Yamaha, he was excited to try for a double win for the weekend.  In the LO206 class Wes was leading on the final lap when the racer in 2nd attempted a pass and wrecked both of them.  Wes quickly gained control but in the meantime two other racers passed.  Wes has this week off but he's ready for more kart racing action on the 29th!

BUCKEYE KARTING CHALLENGE - FINAL RACE

(September 8, 2019) - After driving late last night and choosing no practice, Wes took to the track for the final race of the Buckeye Karting Challenge in Fremont, OH.  Again the race format was Pill Draw.  Wes finished heat one in 2nd and heat two in 4th.  These finishes placed Wes on the pole to start the final.  Unfortunately a faulty clutch did not provide him what he needed although he was able to finish a respectable 3rd.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #11

(September 7, 2019) - Race #11 of the Ohio Valley Karting Association series is in the books. Wes drove fast and clean placing his Champion Power Equipment karts at the front of the field all day.  In the Sportsman LO206 class Wes completed the day in 2nd place and in the Sportsman Yamaha class he crossed the finish line seconds ahead of others capturing another 1st place.  See the Gallery  page for pictures.

FREMONT RACEWAY PARK RACING

(August 25, 2019) - Wes took a quick road trip to Fremont Raceway Park located in Fremont, Ohio to practice for the upcoming Buckeye Karting Challenge on September 8th.  While there, Wes chose to participate in their club's local race.  Along with winning several heat races he also won both feature races in the LO206 Sportsman and Yamaha Sportsman classes.

(August 18, 2019) -  This wee'k's kart racing took Wes to Circleville, Ohio where he participated in race 4 of 5 in the Buckeye Karting Challenge.  This was Wes' first trip to this track in many, many years and he did well.  He raced in the Sportsman Yamaha and Sportsman LO206 classes.  He drove extremely clean crossing the finish line in 2nd place in the Sportsman Yamaha and 3rd in the Sportsman LO206.  See the Gallery  page for pictures.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #10

(August 10, 2019) -Wes returned to racing under the lights at G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio.  Racing format was (straight) Pea Pick.  This meant starting position for the 1st heat was random draw, the field would be inverted for heat 2 and for the final race the field would start based on their finishing average based on races 1 and 2.

In Sportsman Yamaha Wes's kart was the fastest on the track.  He won the first 2 heats which meant he only needed to finish in 3rd place in the final to establish the win for the night.  He chose to no push his kart in the final bringing home a 1st place win for the night.

In Sportsman LO206 Wes experienced a few mechanical issues.  Although those issues never stopped him from racing he was at a disadvantage of competing with the front runners.  However, Wes was able to compensate and leave with a respectable 3rd place finish.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #9

(August 4, 2019) - After a few practice laps Wes requested several changes to each of his 2 karts, Yamaha Sportsman and LO206 Sportsman.  Following those changes he qualified on the pole in both karts.  Then, after calling for a few more changes, Wes drove both karts to victory in the pre-finals as well as in the features.

SUPPORTING NASCAR GANDER TRUCK SERIES DRIVER GRANT ENFINGER

(August 1, 2019) - Wes took a quick road trip to Eldora Speedway to provide on-track support to Grant Enfinger.  Grant finished 3rd which sets him up to clinch his first Gander Trucks Regular Season Championship.  Excellent job Grant!

While at the track Wes and Grant found some time to slide away and spent some time bass fishing.   Click here to see additional pictures.

OVKA  CHAMPIONSHIP MEMORIAL RACE

(July 20, 2019 & July 21, 2019) –   Wes competed in the Ohio Valley Karting Association's two day Championship Memorial Race at G&J Kartway in both the Sportsman LO206 and Sportsman Yamaha classes.  This race memorializes those who have passed and who had relations with the creation, building and growing of OVKA and who also assisted in the creation of what is now known as the World Karting Association(WKA).

The temperature on Saturday was hot (100 degrees) but Wes was even hotter capturing 2 fast lap awards and securing pole for the start of Sunday's races.  Sunday's weather wasn't any better, still hot and humid. In the first pre-final, Sportsman LO206, lapped traffic affected Wes's lead which resulted in a 3rd place finish.  In the Sportsman Yamaha pre-final there was a 4 kart battle until the end where Wes finished in 2nd. In the final Wes and others continued a close battle from start-to-finish.  At the wave of the checkered flag Wes finished in 2nd position in each class providing him the opportunity to bring home 2 second place trophies along with 2 fastest lap trophies.

BUCKEYE KARTING CHALLENGE  RACE #3

(June 30, 2019) -  Wilmington, Ohio was stop 3 for the Buckeye Karting Challenge.  The race format was pill draw, winner take all.  This was the first time Wes had been to this track so he had to quickly become familiar with it, and boy did he.

In Sportsman LO206 Wes proved early on in practice he was fast.  These speeds continued throughout the race day as he finished 2nd in heat one, 1st in heat two and winning the final.

In Sportsman Yamaha Wes was again fast but unfortunately this kart didn't have the responsiveness of his other.  He drove well finishing both heat races and the final in 3rd.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #6

(June 22, 2019) - Wes was back at G&J Kartway for race 6 of the 14 race series.  Many new faces this go around and with the race format pill draw he had his work cut out for him.  Race day consisted of 2 heats and a feature.

In Sportsman LO206 Wes finished the day in 2nd.  The 2nd heat and feature were dramatic until the end.  In heat 2 Wes started in P10.  Within a few laps he had moved to 2nd place but at this point a +4 second gap seperated he and leader.  4 laps later Wes had closed that gap and passed for the win.  In the feature as the 1st heat race winner and Wes were coming to the final two turns they found themselves having passed lapped traffic.  Wes attempted a pass down the straight but was just .024 seconds from a win.

In Sportsman Yamaha Wes finished 2nd too.  Racing throughout the feature was intense to watch.  Wes attempted a last turn pass for the win but unfortunately came up a bit short finishing .117 seconds to the side of the leader.

Next week he moves on to Wilmington, OH for race #3 of the Buckeye Karting Challenge.

UNDER THE LIGHTS  AT OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION

(June 14, 2019) - Wes is getting ready for another Ohio Valley Karting Association night race on Saturday evening, June 22 at G & J Kartway in Camden, Ohio.  This will be race race #6 on the OVKA schedule.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #5

(June 8, 2019) - Tonight Wes raced under the lights at G&J Kartway in Camden, OH with the Ohio Valley Karting Association.  This was race 5 of the OVKA 2019 series.  Like many races this year the weather was not ideal with a mist throughout the day.  This didn't seem to phase Wes though as he won the feature in the Sportsman Yamaha class and finished 2nd in the Sportsman LO206 class.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE #4

(June 2, 2019) - This was the 4th race in OVKA's 14 race series.  For the first time this year the weather on race day was good.  Wes competed in his usual Sportsman LO206 and Sportsman Yamaha classes where he finished 2nd in each.

The racing throughout the day was extremely close in both classes with Wes swapping the lead with several drivers.  In the Sportsman LO206 class Wes qualified 2nd, finished 3rd in prefinal and 2nd at the completion of the final.  In Sportsman Yamaha Wes put his Champion Power Equipment kart on the pole and followed that up with a win in the prefinal and placing 2nd in the final.

Overall a great weekend race-day.  Wes is looking forward to this upcoming weekend’s race when he will race under the lights at the famous G & J Kartway in Camden, OH.

BUCKEYE KARTING CHALLENGE - RACE #2

(May 26, 2019) -  Today Wes participated in race 2 of the Buckeye Karting Challenge at Thompson Kart Raceway in Thompson Ohio.  With isolated rain forecasted and this race scheduled to go on rain or shine, he opted to focus on just one class - Sportsman Yamaha.   The race format was pill draw.

Quick and poorly timed rain showers had Wes omit one practice and enter the second on slicks with a damp track.   The off and on light rain continued throughout the day.  Wes completed heats 1 and 2 in 5th and 4th place and would start the feature on the outside of row 2.  With rain falling at a constant rate and ample time to change Wes' kart to a full rain setup, Wes was prepared to race the feature.  At the conclusion of the feature, some of which Wes led, he crossed the finish line side-by-side the leader in 2nd place just .118 seconds behind 1st.

Next Sunday, weather permitting, Wes will be back on the track participating in Race 4 of the Ohio Valley Karting Association in Camden, OH.

BUCKEYE KARTING CHALLENGE - RACE #2

(May 19, 2019) -  Wes will travel to Thomson Kart Raceway in Thomson, Ohio next weekend for the second segment of the Ohio Buckeye Karting Challenge.  Wes plans to once again race both his Sportsman Yamaha and Sportsman Briggs & Stratton LO206 and hopes to improve upon the finishes from the last race.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION RACE CANCELLED

(May 12, 2019) - This past weekend Wes was back in Camden, Ohio at the Ohio Valley Karting Association for race 3.  Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and racing was cut short thus providing equal rain points to all competitors.

The race format for the day was pill draw, 2 heats and a feature.   In the first heat Wes finished 2nd in the Sportsman Yamaha class and 3rd in Sportsman Briggs & Stratton LO206.  During the Sportsman LO206 race Wes had planned on driving the outside line through a turn in an attempt to pass several karts.  As he entered the turn he said his intuition was to consider the inside line because he felt an accident was brewing ahead.  Well, he was correct and his actions allowed him to pass the crash unscathed.

OPENING DAY FOR OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION

(May 5, 2019) - With the first race of the season postponed a few weeks back, this weekend officially kicked off the 2019 Ohio Valley Karting Association series.  Wes started out strong qualifying on the pole in both the Sportsman Yamaha and Sportsman LO206 (Briggs & Stratton).  With Wes winning the pre-final in Sportsman Yamaha and finishing 2nd in Sportsman LO206 he set himself up to start on the front row in both features.

The finish in both features ended with a drag race down the front straight to the checkerd flag with Wes attempting a pass for the win.   Unfortunately the straightaway was just not long enough.  In Sportsman Yamaha Wes was .094 seconds short of the win and in Sportsman LO206 he made it an even closer finish being just .043 seconds shy of a victory.  Overall a great day with two 2nd place finishes.

OHIO VALLEY KARTING ASSOCIATION SEASON OPENER

(May 1, 2019) - The Ohio Valley Karting Association once again plans to begin their 2019 Racing Season on Sunday, May 5 at G & J Kartway in Camden, Ohio.  The previously schedule season opener was postponed due to inclement weather.

Wes plans to make his OVKA debut in two classes, the Yamaha Junior Sportsman and the LO206 Junior Sportsman.

BUCKEYE KARTING CHALLENGE OPENS THE SEASON

(Apr 28, 2019) - This weekend kicked off the first race of the Buckeye Karting Challenge series at G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio.  Wes raced in two kart classes, the Sportsman Yamaha and Sportsman Briggs & Stratton LO206.  With a wet track in the morning Wes chose to forego practice knowing the weather would break in time for the green flag.

In the Sportsman Yamaha Wes started on the pole for the first heat, finishing 4th.  The racing format was pill draw, meaning the field was inverted for the second heat.  Wes started in position 12 and climbed to 5th.  Prior to the feature an issue which plagued us all day was found and corrected.  Shortly after the green flagged dropped for the feature there was a crash in turn 1 in front of Wes which he was able to avoid.  Unfortunately due to the placement of the crashed karts the track was temporarily blocked.  When Wes was able to drive away he was in last place, 12th.  He drove flawlessly for the reminder of the feature passing 7 karts to place 4th for the day.

Wes started on the pole again in the Sportsman LO206 class, easily driving away from the field winning the heat.  For the second heat Wes started in position 23 (pill draw) and was able to drive through the field to finish 4th.  This put Wes in at position 2 to start the feature.  Racing was fast and close.  Wes was able to avoid several additional crashes throughout the race and ended in 3rd place.
